Lumin Arts is a co-operative artists experiment into the avant-garde & meta-modernity. Functioning as a residency based project, Lumin Arts sets up a space for collaboration between artists, or the public in general, giving them a space to research, collate and experiment with the practices of avant-garde artists and those marginalised or completely outside of the rubric of a ‘canon’. It involves a selected radical library of books available for use, and collaborates with the residency to create a space with practical materials to realise the group’s artistic ideas – resulting in happenings, performances, exhibitions, or printed books.
Initially Lumin Arts started as an installation in the arts space Three Doors Up (Lumin Library). It was a library space in the back corner of a white-wall gallery with room to read or work, with the ability to take out books with no strict due date. The space held two events close to the inception of Lumin Journal: a poetry reading and a multi-media exhibition with art, journal launch, poetry reading and band performance.
